Training

Our Practice is an approved training Practice. We participate in the training of doctors, houseman, medical students and nurses. This means that we regularly have new doctors spending up to a year with us before joining their own Practice or returning back to Hospital Medicine. We also have Retained GP's who undertake several sessions a week. Retained GP's have already completed their GP training and work within the practice in order to maintain their skills. On occasions there will also be student nurses spending time within the Practice to gain experience in community care.

Three of our partners are accredited for GP training. Dr Duncan Goodland has been a GP trainer since 1984, Dr Richard Sherriff since 1999 and recently Dr Capehorn has become a GP trainer. The Registrar and Houseman have their own designated surgeries twice daily, with the added bonus of having 20 minute appointments to begin with, for each patient. From time to time, one of their GP mentors will sit in on their consultations to enable critical analysis of their skills. This should not interfere with a patient's needs, and may in fact be of benefit to the patient. Videoing of consultations is also carried out - the patient would always be asked their permission before this is used.
