Dr Richard J Sherriff

MB ChB (Bristol 1976) BSc DRCOG MRCGP
I was born in Wallasay, Merseyside, and moved to Leicester as a teenager. I qualified in Medicine at Bristol University in 1976, having previously taken a degree in Biochemistry in London. I worked at the Bristol Royal Infirmary and Bristol Maternity Hospital before completing a Registrar year in General Practice at Yate Health Centre. I joined Kennedy Way Surgery as a partner in 1982.
My medical interests include Diabetes and Medical Education. I am a Hospital Practitioner in Diabetes at Frenchay Hospital (since 1982) and am involved with the local PCT in reviewing the Diabetes services locally in light of the forthcoming NSF on Diabetes. I was a clinical assistant in Obstetrics at St Michaels Hospital from 1982 until 1995.
I am a recognised Trainer in General Practice and am presently the Educational Supervisor to our Preregistration House Officers attached to the Practice.
My hobbies include watching and playing sports. I am an ardent Leicester FC supporter, and regularly play squash, five-a-side football and cricket. I am married with 2 daughters: Julia, who is reading a PhD in Biochemistry in Oxford, and Jenny, who is studying Medicine in Birmingham.
